In an obvious attempt to relive his glory days or perhaps an example of his failing abilities, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has ordered that all politicians must wear army uniforms as a show of support to the defence forces. The currently civilian President said that he would be more comfortable governing the country in this manner. The President said that people are not to read anything more into this order other than the comfort factor.

“When schools order uniforms for their students, no one thinks anything wrong about it,” he said, “all I want to do is inculcate some respect for my people for the force that I have given so many of my years to.” Critics have been quick to pounce on the President saying that he is obviously losing the plot. “It is obviously an emotional crutch,” said opposition leader Imran Khan, “the man is lost without his show of strength so is doing anything to hold on to it.”

The President is also said to be contemplating changing the uniform of judges and lawyers to something along the lines of military rather than the traditional black. High-profile Presidential critic, Iftikhar Chowdhury said that if the President made the judges dress like the army, then he may as well give them guns and hasten the judicial process. The President is said to have taken this under consideration.

The politicians themselves though are not overly bothered by this new development. For them, the President has always been running the country like an army boot camp, it therefore was not an issue that he is making his mean dress up for him too. The uniforms should be ready by the end of the year in time to start the new year of Pakistani governance in fully army glory.
