The five-star hotel Taj Lands End in Bandra has introduced a new concept in the world of gaming. Their large neon sign has been officially declared a target for a live version of Counter Strike, to be played out over the next few months. Players of the game can sign up on the hotel web site, after which they must do whatever it takes to bring down the sign as soon as possible including, but not limited to, going after each other first.

General Manager Hamid Sheikh bin-Khaled firmly stands behind this idea that some view as rather twisted. “If players are allowed to go on an online world and frag each other anytime they want, why shouldn’t they be allowed to do it in real life too?” bin-Khaled believes this game will increase hand-eye co-ordination and does not believe that it would influence the participants to be tempted towards violence in real life.

The game began last night and the website has already registered over 578 registered users of the game. Surprisingly though, the sign has yet to be shot down. The player comments on the website show that of the original users, over 20 have already been fragged. Unlike the cyber version of the game, in this version, once you are fragged, there is no chance of you coming back to life. Leaderboard topper Hot_Big_Male666, who has accounted for 9 of the 20 frags says, “This is a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. I think this is a very good idea. The gaming community of the city should be very thankful”

Municipal commisioner Johny Joseph, who’s department is responsible for cleaning up the fragged bodies is not happy. “We were told this would be exactly like Counter Strike. When I saw the game, the dead bodies disappeared on their own. If I had known it would be like this, I would not have allowed it.” Social activist Shabana Azmi echoes these sentiments saying, “What if tomorrow they start fragging slum dwellers. They are human too. I can’t imagine what I would do with all that free time if all the slum dwellers were fragged.”

Like it or not, the game is here to stay. bin-Khaled is planning to announce a cash prize for the winner of the game. “It will be a sizeable amount but we have yet to settle the final figure,” he said. And once this session is over, is there a possibility of there being another round? “Frag Yeah!”
